Today, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a preliminary injunction that GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis’ attempt to weaken Amendment 4, a constitutional amendment re-enfranchising ex-felons after they have completed their sentence, amounts to an unfair poll tax.

The ruling could allow the 1.6 million Florida felons who have completed their prison sentences to regain their right to vote as intended under Amendment 4 which passed in 2018 with nearly 65 percent of the vote.

Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown released the following statement:

“I applaud the 11th Circuit’s ruling that blocks Gov. Ron DeSantis’ unconstitutional attempt to disenfranchise millions of voters. Florida’s voters made it clear when they overwhelmingly supported Amendment 4 that they believe in the fundamental right to vote. It is shameful that DeSantis has tried repeatedly to block the will of his constituents and the rights of Floridians. As governors, we should be strengthening our democracy, not tearing it down.”
